A proud Truman State University alum, Jami Chalgren relocated from her home state of Missouri to Orlando, Florida.  Jami attended and graduated from Barry Law School where she discovered her talent for legal research and writing.  Jami and her Moot Court team earned the “Best Brief” award and were semi-finalists in the annual Robert Orsick Moot Court competition.

Jami began her law career as an intern at the Polk County, 10th Circuit Public Defender’s office where her persistence and diligence for her clients earned her the coveted HARDBALL AWARD! (To date, Jami is the only intern to have ever received this award.)  Jami’s dedication to her clients was again recognized when she was awarded the Statewide Best Advocate Award by her fellow public defender colleagues.

At the public defender’s office, Jami handled a wide variety of cases – from misdemeanors to felonies and post-conviction and appeals.  She has experience handling death penalty cases at the trial, appellate, and post conviction levels and has argued before the Florida Supreme Court.  Prior to leaving the PDs office, Jami tried two first degree homicide cases, both of which resulted in full jury acquittals for her clients.

Outside of the courtroom, Jami spends her time with family and friends.  Jami loves the outdoors, especially the warm Florida waters.  She regularly spends time at the beach and boating in the gulf.  In the cooler months, Jami enjoys weekending at the family cabin in north Florida.
